MARBLEWOOD
-
(Marmaroxylon racemosum
(Suriname) Diospyros marmorata (Andaman and Nicobar Islands)) This
hardwood is a fine and evenly textured straight grain with an attractive
figuring of dark or black bands on a grey brown or light grey
background. As a result Marblewood is considered a very distinctive,
rare, and expensive wood.
Marblewood grow in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of Southeast
Asia and in Suriname in South America. Marblewood is variegated black
and brown timber and is actually part of the Ebony family of woods.
Ebonies are generally thought of as black timbers. In reality some of
the species have only a tiny pencil sized black zone and some of them
are white, cream or yellow all through.
