            BUBINGA
Bubinga - (Guibourtia demeusei) Bubinga trees are usually found near rivers and lakebeds as well as swampy areas or forests that are frequently flooded. This is a large tree that can grow up to 150 feet with a diameter of up to 6 feet. Sometimes Bubinga trees will have buttresses but almost always with straight boles. Bubinga is a very heavy wood, with weight varying from about 50lbs to 60lbs per cubic foot. Bubinga has many faces it all depends on how it's cut and milled.
The wood is often used by luthiers for harps and other instruments, such as bass guitars, because of its mellow and well-rounded sound. It has been used in drum shells as well. Drum companies such as Tama offer various high-end drum kits with plies of Bubinga in the shells.
Bubinga has a wide range of grain patterns which only a few are shown below.
