TAMBOOTIE
-(Spirostachys africana) another
name is African Sandalwood.
This wood comes from South Africa. It also extends up the east coast as
far north as Kenya.
Tambootie is a rare and beautiful wood. The heartwood color is dark
to light chocolate. The sapwood, with its lightly yellowish color gives
a nice contrast.
Tambootie's texture is fine and even with a straight grain. Quite
often it is well figured. The wood is tough and heavy (67 lb/ft). It is
very durable and highly resistant to insects and fungi and has a
pleasant odor.
